One time, I met Bobby Brown…

I was just thinking about this the other day. Its true, I met Bobby Brown at the height of his popularity in the early 90s…I was in 1st grade.

My Dad somehow scored tickets to the Boston Music Awards. He did this because I, being 6 or 7 at the time, LOVED New Kids on the Block and they were performing.

We were seat fillers! NKOTB was right there, right in front of me! Wicked awesome! I even wore my best outfit- a purple leopard print dress with my finest pair of stretch pants…excuse me, they are called “leggings” now.

Anyway, I’m sitting there with my dad and a couple rows back is Bobby Brown. He is wearing the biggest white fur coat I think I have ever seen in my life. It looked like he was being eaten by a polar bear. My dad talks me into getting his autograph (which I sadly do not have anymore). I walk up to him and I believe I said “um excuse me, can I have your autograph?” and he smiled and seemed flattered and happily signed my random piece of paper.

At the time, I did not know that it could have gone differently, that he could have told me ” bitch please!” and smacked me, that would have not been out of the ordinary for him.

If only I had some inkling of a clue of what he would become, I would have saved that autograph. But I can still say… “Hey, one time, I met Bobby Brown!”
