What happens when you’re up all night watching VH1

VH1 stands for Video Hits First. If they weren’t such a recognized network, I’d suggest they ditch that name since it only hold true between 3am and 6am. But this isn’t going to be another rant about how music networks don’t show music videos anymore and are totally dominated by unimaginative, uninspired reality shows that more than likely lessen the intelligence of their faithful fan base (though, it is true. I am also guilty. Damn you Rock of Love!). I couldn’t sleep last night so I found myself watching TV, hoping I would pass out. However, that did not work. And the more a watched, the more I was like WTF?

For the Love of Ray J is the newest “celebrity” dating show VH1 is putting out. Ray J? Really? Does anyone even care about him? If it was Usher, yeah I could understand it. But then again, Usher probably doesn’t need a reality show to get a girlfriend. Bret Michaels I understand, Poison was big in the 80s, he looks decent for his age and rockstar lifestyle, I get that. Flavor Flav is so off his rocker that he is pretty much entertaining in anything and watching girls try to win over someone like that is even funnier. I mean really, nothing says true love like a trip to Red Lobster and a giant clock medalion.

But Ray J? The only thing I really know about him is that he is Brandy’s brother and that Whitney Houston hit it (good for her!). But it got me thinking about random musicians I’d like to see search for love on a reality show. Here are my top 5:

1) Marilyn Manson- Can you even imagine the people who would turn out for that one?

2) Amy Winehouse- I mean really, it would probably be more addicting than all the crack flowing through her system.

3) Courtney Love- Continuing with the theme of train wrecks, lets see if anyone can live up to Kurt while trying to keep C. Love fully clothed and upright.

4) Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy- Pop Punk Girls unite and try to convince the world that you really think he’s cute and it has nothing to do with his band or his close proximity to Pete Wentz.

5) Britney- It would probably be the highest rated reality show ever. I nominate her not because of the past few years of insanity, but because she needs a good man!

Comment back with who you would like to see try to find love on national TV.

Unrelated note: After seeing the trailer several times last night (since VH1 is totally down with Hip Hop), I’m probably totally going to see “Notorious”. I know given the choice, Biggie or Pac, most people will pick Pac due to his hard edge, his honesty, and his struggle, but Biggie is more my man. I just enjoy his flow a lot better. And his charisma was as big as he was.

I will definitely post a full review after I see it.

Oh and thank god for this grande chai and Innerpartysystem right now. They are getting me through the morning.

    in no particular order:

    1. william shatner
    2. jack black
    3. chuck norris
    4. tim armstrong
    5. someone who isn’t a celebrity

while we’re at it, why doesn’t someone do something interesting like follow a band on tour and show us every week all the fuck up shit they do?

    3. Jack Black… I’d take it one step further and have it be the D!

There already is a celebrity non dating show- it is called The Bachelor. But it would be funny if they did a show and convinced a bunch of idiots that some random dude or chick was famous.

And the reason they don’t follow a band on tour is because that isn’t scripted or controlled really. There is either a lot of down time on the road or they are super busy with interviews etc. There is no guaranteed drama or fighting unless they follow Oasis or something.

Though that reminds me, I have been meaning to Netflix “The Urethra Chronicles” :)

Oh and add Kanye West to my list just for that whole “George W. Bush hates black people” thing. Clearly he’s qualified for television
